Your Best Year Ever by Michael Hyatt

Make this year your breakthrough year! This week, we’re jumping into Michael Hyatt’s book…Your Best Year Ever.

Hyatt asks, “Is this next year just going to be another year, not that different from the rest, or are you going to make this your breakthrough year?” Success isn’t about getting more things done…it’s about getting the right things done.

The Big Takeaway from Your Best Year Ever

To find breakthrough and achieve your dreams…you need SMARTER goals. (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Risky, Time-Keyed, Exciting, and Relevant)

Favorite Quotes

  • “I can do anything I want. I just can’t do everything I want.”
  • “A limiting belief is a misunderstanding of the present that shortchanges our future.”
  • “The truth is that you will never have more of what you want until you become thankful for what you have.”
  • “One of the biggest reasons we don’t succeed with our goals is we doubt we can.”
  • “Distant deadlines discourage action.”
  • “People lose their way when they lose their why.”
  • “From a Christian perspective Jesus not only knew what these people needed, he could instantly heal them. But he didn’t. Instead, he asked them to declare what they wanted. It seems their apparent need was not their greatest need. More than healing, they needed clarity.”

My Thoughts

This is one of the best books on goal setting that I’ve read. I love SMARTER goals and using that framework will help you accomplish more.

This book doesn’t just focus on one principle, but it covers a large variety of principles. Hyatt writes in a clear, articulate, practical way, so the concepts are easy to understand and implement immediately. This book is a great companion to the Full Focus Planner, which I use and love.

Conclusion

Your Best Year Ever will help you achieve breakthrough in productivity and actually achieve your dreams. This is not a book you can just read…you have to actually implement the concepts. If you use the Full Focus Planner, this book is a great companion to the concepts utilized in the planner.
