How to Create an Awesome About Page

What is the most important page on your blog? The answer might surprise you…it’s your About Me page. Your About Me page is likely the most viewed page on your site…if you have one. If you don’t have one…create yours today.

Your About Me page is where your readers go to see who you are and what you’re about. An awesome About Me page is not about you…its about your readers. Use your About Me page to let your readers know who you are and how you help them.

I suggest having 7 different sections on your About Me page. Let your readers know (1) who you are, (2) the problem you solve, (3) how you help them, (4) when you publish new content, (5) ways to get in touch with you, (6) links to some of your content, and…finally…(7) links to some of your lead magnets encouraging your reader’s to join your email list.

Your Story

As Seth Godin stated, “People do not buy goods and serves. They buy relations, stories, and magic.” Your About Me page is where you tell your story and start building relationships.

Remember, even though you are telling your story, your About Me page is not about you…it’s about your readers. Tell your story in a way your readers can relate to you and begin to trust you.

This includes personal antidotes to help your readers get to know you and your credentials to help your readers start to trust you. They need to know who you are and why they should read your content.

Your About Me page is not about you…it’s about your readers.

Your Contact Information

Your readers need a way to get in contact with you. This is the perfect place to put your email address so you’re readers can shoot you an email if they have any questions. Remember, the About Me page is not about you…it’s about your readers! This is where your relationship likely begins.

If you want to be approachable…have a way for your readers to approach you. Your About Me page is the perfect place for that.

If you don’t want to give out your personal email address, you can create a new email address just for your About Me page. Just make sure you actually check it.

A Good Headshot

You can get a some good professional headshots for a little bit of money these days. These are great for your website. I’d recommend at least one good picture of you for your About Me page.

Your About Me page is the beginning of your relationship with your readers. This is where they’re going to go to determine if they want to get to know you…if you want to grow your blog, then your readers need to know, like, and trust you.

Think about, wouldn’t you feel closer to someone you’ve seen before? Therefore, get some good photos of you taken and use them throughout your blog…especially on your About Me page.

The Problem You’re Solving

Your blog grows when each post solves a problem your ideal readers are facing. What problems will you be solving with your blog? This information needs to be on your About Me page.

You’re readers are going to go to your About Me page to see if they need or want to read your content. Therefore, explain to them not only who you are, but also the problems you solve. This will help the readers determine if your blog is for them.

Remember, if you write to everybody, you’ll be writing to nobody. You need to niche down and let your potential readers know what niche you write about.

For example, I help Christian Bloggers create, grow, and leverage their platforms for the Kingdom. Therefore, my niche includes topics such as platform creation, growing a platform, and monetizing a platform. I also blog about Christian spirituality, leadership, and productivity.

What do you blog about? What problems will you be solving? Let your potential readers know the answers to these questions and they’ll be one step closer to becoming loyal ideal readers.

Your Publishing Schedule

Your publishing schedule is one of the best ways to gain the trust of your readers. When they know when you post each week and they go there each week to find your new content…and its there…they begin to trust you more.

Therefore, you need to be creating new consistent weekly content. Pick a day of the week to publish new posts. When you’ve selected your day, let your readers know on your About Me page when you’ll be publishing new content…and then do it. Publish consistently, weekly, on that day.

You’ll be transforming your ideal readers to loyal ideal readers as you develop your blogging habit.

Links to Your Content

Linking to some of your content helps in two major ways. First, it helps your readers get started with some great content. Second, it keeps readers on your site which helps your bounce rates.

Your bounce rate is calculated by google and impacts your SEO. Its simply how the percentage of people who go to your website and leave without looking at other pages. You want them to look at other pages…providing links to your most popular content helps drastically.

Additionally, the goal on your About Me page is to serve your readers, what’s a better way to serve your readers than to provide a short curated list of your best posts. It’s a great Start Here list for your new readers.

Lead Magnets

Your About Me page is a great place to put links to a couple of your best lead magnets. A lead magnet is something you give your reader in exchange for their email address.

A good lead magnet offers value and solves a problem for your readers.

You want to be growing a healthy email list as you grow your blog. A healthy email list allows you to have a good influx of readers each week. Additionally, developing a healthy email list is a must if you ever want to monetize your blog.

Your email list is a list of people who want to hear from you. They’re the ones you’re developing relationships with and who are most likely to use your affiliate links or buy your products and services.

Therefore, place some links to your best lead magnets on your About Me page, doing so will turn your About Me page to an awesome lead generation page.
